A liner can absorb everyday discharge and light moisture, which keeps the area drier and most people feeling fresher. But a liner isn't a fix for odor on its own. Leaving the same one on for hours can actually make smell worse, since trapped moisture against the skin is part of what creates odor in the first place. The combo that helps: pick a breathable, unscented liner (organic cotton if your skin runs sensitive), change every three to five hours, and pair with cotton underwear so air can move. Persistent or unusual odor isn't something a liner is meant to mask. If it sticks around, talk to your doctor.
